Enter your comments here... Hello Rick,
I am giving your book as a gift to Sara Langer, a teacher in the Denver Public school system. She is my youngest son's girlfriend, Montessori trained. I would like to read your book soon but think Sara would really enjoy it now. So, I am wondering how much you know about Sudbury Valley School? You must know of it, just from what I've learned about you and the Open School so far. My husband and I almost moved to Framingham, MA 23 yrs. ago to give our 3 children this education but due to various factors, we moved to Boulder, CO for the Shining Mountain Waldorf school. The children are all graduates of this school and doing great in their adult lives. example: www.amandasage.com our daughter, and then we have two sons. Warm regards, You P.S. I'd welcome a conversation with you sometime if you have a desire for this. 303-443-7662

Rick,

Just wanted to drop by and give you an update of what I'm up to. I just began an internship at an organization in northern CA called the Sierra Friends Center, which runs a semester boarding school program for high school juniors, seniors, and gap year students called the Woolman Semester. Being here is getting me all excited and nostalgic about my Open School days, as this is a very radical, experiential, self-directed learning environment!

I would love to catch up sometime. I haven't really kept up with what's happening at the Open School over the last few years, and I assume you probably have. I'd be interested in hearing your impressions about how it has changed or stayed the same since my time there.

I hope you are well!
Peace,
Andrew

Rick, I plan on being at your book signing at the Tattered Cover Thursday (01-14-10)evening. What an honor to possibly meet you!
Some say inclement weather is coming but that won't stop me from driving 100 miles. You've put some amazing time and effort in this work. I feel that it will have a positive impact on everyone who reads it. My son Tom experienced Walkabout learning at Mountain Open and I will be forever grateful. He has become a very high acheiver. Walkabout and SDL is saving minds and lives, I believe. Congratulations!

Hi Heather,

I'm sure Rick will drop you a line, but since I'm in charge of approving real people comments and filtering out spam comments, I saw your comment first. I'd love to be in touch. One of the projects I am working on is a website that can be a bridge for generations of alumni and current students. It's a work in progress, and I am looking for content for the 'creative endeavors' section, so I'd love to talk photography (I love talking photography anyway). The site is at jeffcoopen.net, and there is also a facebook group where a lot of our folks have connected. Search groups for 'Jeffco Open: Friends of the Open School'. There are also some folks on Classmates.com. At any rate, I'd love your input on the jeffcoopen.net project. If you are in town for the holidays, I think some school people are having a super informal get-together, probably on the 27th. You can reach me at cl@clmcdermid.net anytime.

Best,

Corrine

hello Rick,

I am a freelance NYC based photographer and avid traveler. I had the pleasure to go to Tanglewood Open in Golden, before the merge, and before our family moved to Oregon. My memories of Tanglewood are VIVID and my experience unlike anything any friends has experienced. I was truly close to my amazing advisors and truly inspired by them, perhaps more than anyone else in my younger life. I remember them WELL...Mary Lampi, and Rick (cant remember his last name) As well as the others like Steve White....I could go on and on with details and great memories. I wish there was a alumni site where we could find old friends, and teachers. I hope to read you book someday and visit when I am in Denver next seeing family.

Thanks, Heather
